About Whakaraupō/Lyttelton Harbour
Whakaraupō/Lyttelton Harbour is in the Waitaha/Canterbury region of of Aotearoa/New Zealand. The Harbour is of great cultural importance to Ngāi Tahu, especially Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke as they have Mana Whenua and Mana Moana over the area.
The harbour also supports many endangered fish and bird species. The health of Whakaraupō and the animals that live here are now threatened by erosion and pollution. Protecting the health of Whakaraupō is important for mahinga kai and the wellbeing of all community members.
